Swimming, Drowning
The swimming pool as a symbol evokes controversial feelings. When seen from the outside, it seems like either a prestigious status symbol or an overcrowded playground. Being inside, on the contrary, often awakens the pleasure of intimate lightness and isolated soaring.
My reconstruction aims to recall exactly these emotions – distant and cold from its outside, one needs to come closer and visually sink to see the intimate content of the film which is shown on the swimming pool’s floor.
The solid concrete and coloured resin cover the sight of the pool’s floor at first; only a closer look reveals the contents shown on the embedded display. Rather than providing answers and stories, the video does not entail a clear narrative. Instead, it ponders over questions of isolation and visibility, obligations and liberties.
